LAUNCH OF MANDALAY SMART PAY

LAUNCH OF MANDALAY SMART PAY BRINGS GREATER CONVENIENCE TO MANDALAY RESIDENTS; ADVANCES SMART CITY VISION

Mandalay Smart Pay is a comprehensive payment solution that can be easily deployed on a national level

19 March 2020, Myanmar- The Mandalay City Development Committee (MCDC), Yadanabon Bank and global payments platform 2C2P have joined hands to launch Mandalay Smart Pay, a mobile application enabling residents to make payments, transfer money and so much more anytime, anywhere on their phones.

The launch marks the first time that residents will be able to make payments for government services using their smartphone. With more than ten different features on one app, Mandalay Smart Pay is unique in that it allows residents to conduct almost all of their civil and personal administrative tasks via their mobile phone.

In addition to paying taxes and service fees, residents can use the app to shop by scanning the business QR code for payment, transfer and receive money from family and friends and top up their mobile balances. (See Annex for features)

Mr Ye Lwin, Mayor of Mandalay said, “A smart city is formed by making public services better. We’ve been using IoT technology to change the way we improve infrastructure in Mandalay - our roads, traffic and waste management for example.

“The next step in building a smart city is to make it convenient for residents to pay for these services and we’re grateful that 2C2P was willing to share their expertise and knowledge to create an app that could do all of this and more,” he added.

In line with this, 2C2P has developed a comprehensive payment solution for Mandalay that it believes can be easily and quickly propagated to the rest of Myanmar and used throughout the country.

Mr Aung Kyaw Moe, Founder and Group CEO of 2C2P said, “We are delighted to be able to help Mandalay achieve its smart city vision and make a real and tangible difference to the lives of Mandalay’s residents with Mandalay Smart Pay.”

Myanmar is a ‘digital native’ country and smartphones are very much a part of its citizens’ daily lifestyle. “The Mandalay residents are already savvy phone users so it made sense to empower them with a feature-packed mobile app that allows them to complete all of their daily tasks in one place. With Mandalay Smart Pay, they can shop, pay bills, transfer money and add to their mobile balance conveniently on a secure platform backed by a global company,” Mr Aung added.

Mandalay Smart Pay is part of Myanmar’s Smart City Project under the ASEAN Smart Cities Network. The aim of a Smart City is to raise the living standards of the people, create an efficient business environment and protect the natural environment.

Mandalay Smart Pay works with all phone types and is available for download from Google Play Store. Mandalay Smart Pay users can top-up their mobile wallets easily via MPU card or cash through the 1-2-3 Service covered by 100,000+ stores including NearMe’s retail network.
