Southeast Asia's tourism sector was badly hit by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, with 98% fewer international arrivals in 2021 compared to 2019 resulting in an 8.4% loss to the region's total GDP in 2021, according to the United Nations World Tourism Organization.
